Their small size should not be underestimated, as they have a gigantic personality! Caiques love to play, and will make a toy out of any item that is given to them. Unlike most parrots, the majority of caiques love to hop when excited, happy, or playing. These boisterous birds have a wide variety of colors on their little bodies, ranging from emerald green on their wings and tail, creamy white on their bellies, and bright yellow neck and legs. The Black-headed Caiques we offer have black on the top of their heads, with hints of emerald green below their eye. Caiques have the potential to love meeting and interacting with people. Children should always be supervised around a caique due to their high energy and risk of biting if offended in some way. Caiques require a wide variety of toys they can play with and destroy, as well as many fruits and vegetables with the occasional nut as a treat. Caiques do have the potential to learn a couple words and phrases with training. Due to their high energy and intelligence, caiques are wonderful candidates for training and they can learn a variety of simple and complex tricks. While quieter than other parrots, they can make loud, shrill screeches when they believe they are being ignored. Spending time with their owners, laying on their backs in your hand, getting pets on the head, and most of all snuggling time, will keep your caique sweet, gentle, and a great friend!
